Opt-Out Option for: Interventions change the Webpage Title or Favicon

Feature Request🌐 Browser Extension

Browsers often cache the title and favicon of a webpage. This means that bookmarks, reading lists, pinned tabs etc… become hard to browse.

I see no reason why the browser extension should mess with the page title.

      Hey, thanks for working on this.

      Since your comment, I haven’t seen an update. My Firefox extension is on v1.3.2 and in Chrome I only see v1.3.0.

      Could you clarify which extension was updated?

        @Lucas I am now on v1.4.1 in Firefox, but I still don’t see an option. Tab titles are still changed to eg. “YouTube”.

          Hi there @sebkra , what we fixed was the title “Intervention for.. “. We can see it is useful to keep a reference to the website’s name (I guess you keep tabs fixed open).

          Our thinking process was that it still makes sense to override any “clickbait” / “dopamine” titles (e.g. new notifications, messages, references to content etc…), but t keep the website’s name at front.

            As we discussed before, this helps but doesn't entirely solve the problem:

            Reddit and YouTube especially are resources for which you might want to keep multiple tabs/bookmarks. For example: I might have multiple long-form videos I'm watching, to which I have saved bookmarks or tabs.

            On the flip-side, I don't believe engagement-bait in the title is actually a real-world problem. For me, there are two use-cases:

            • I tried to directly open an Article or a Video with a clickbaity title: In this case I already saw the title when clicked the link - that's probably why clicked in the first place. You don't need to hide it from me.

            • I'm trying to visit the main feed of a website: I don't know any services that put clickbaity titles on the main feed. Showing "Reddit - Frontpage of the Internet" or whatever isn't distracting to me.

            I would still very much like a solution for this. It is a daily annoyance for me and my biggest issue with OneSec.

    In Safari all affected tabs are called “Intervention for XYZ”, and it would be very useful to see the actual title of the page instead.

    This isn’t limited to Arc btw. I’m facing the same issues in Safari.

    It looks like the extension keeps the favicon now and shows the name of the page you’re trying to access.

    This is already a million times better, but if you have multiple Bookmarks pointing to the same page, you’re still blind.

    For example, if I have multiple YouTube videos in my read-later list, it just says “YouTube” over and over again.

    Again: what is gained by messing with the title here at all? Are there some pages that can be spoiled by the page title?

      The intent is to completely shield the target website. Although it contributes only a little to the addictive effects, this includes flashy logo's and clickbait titles.
      But we also understand the annoyance.

      Especially for browsers with vertical tab-bars we can see that it is useful to keep a reference to the website’s name
