Hacker News has a feature they call “<a target="" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=814695">noprocrast</a>”, which works like this:<ol><li>The first time you visit the site, it starts a timer. The duration of this timer is configurable (the setting is called “maxvisit”). You’re allowed to use the site unrestricted until this timer is up. The timer keeps ticking even when you’re not using the site.</li><li>After that hour is up, it locks you out of the site and starts another timer. The duration of this timer is also configurable (called “minaway”). It only unlocks the site after this second timer is up.</li></ol>It’s simple, but I’ve found it’s the most effective tool I’ve ever found for controlling usage of this kind of site. It is so useful that I deliberately created a custom iOS Shortcut (using the Global Variables feature from <a target="" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://toolboxpro.app/">Toolbox Pro</a>) that mimics its behaviour, and haven’t yet bought one sec pro largely because one sec will conflict with it.<h1>Why is it so useful?</h1><h2>Makes you think before you open</h2>Because the timer starts right when you first access the site, it forces you to think hard before you access it: “I’ve budgeted only an hour per day for this, am I sure I want to blow that hour now, or am I just opening this out of habit/impulse?”This strikes me as exactly the kind of response one sec is aiming for.<h2>“Defragmenting” of time</h2>The fact that the timer keeps going even when you’re not using the app/site makes you use those apps/sites differently. If you open the app and then go off to do something else, too bad, your time limit is going to be over anyway.This shifts your usage pattern of the app. It goes from something you might check semi-randomly for 5 minutes at a time, to something that you intentionally choose to access and spend dedicated time on.And if it’s not worth spending dedicated time on? Then why are you using it in the first place?<h2>Flexibility</h2>Lastly, it’s flexible. If you want to limit it so that you’re accessing the site an hour a day, set “maxvisit” to an hour and “minaway” to 12-20 hours. If you want to allow yourself to have a longer period twice a day, set “maxvisit” to 2-3 hours, and “minaway” to something like 8 hours. This is a lot more flexible than blocking sites/apps at specific times of the day. It lets you adapt your usage to whatever you need that day, and still lets you be somewhat spontaneous, but in a less-damaging way.<h1>How might this feature look like within one sec?</h1>I picture this as an app/site-specific setting that lets you define a “session length” and “gap between sessions”. The intervention would then have a “start session” button that starts the timer. Once the session timer is up, the app would be blocked until the “gap” timer runs out, either by graying it out or by presenting you with an intervention that cannot be bypassed.This would also pair really well with one sec pro’s existing features like re-interventions. Re-interventions could help enforce the session timer, kicking in when it’s over.I think this could be a really great addition to the app overall, and would likely push me over the edge towards buying a lifetime subscription.

Could we please add the ability to specifically only block subdomains or have a second intervention that we can adjust separately for subdomains? I want to be able to use YouTube or Reddit to look something up without having to do an intervention when I'm trying to be productive or showing friends something but don't want to get lost in shorts or <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class=" a cursor-pointer hover:underline link" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/home/">r/home</a> scrolling.

very helpful app but it seems like without any available browser extension on my phone, a lot of its potential power is lost.i had a decent run after using one sec to be mindful about game apps and streaming, but it wasn't practical to brock all of firefox, and due to all the distractions I could find on the web, i had a major relapse.is an android-compatible extension for Firefox or Chrome sitting on your roadmap somewhere? as of Sept 2025 i don't see any on your feedback board. this would be an enormous value-add,I'm sure it's a big undertaking but i hope you can slot it in somehow.

DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO ABUSE THIS BUGI’ve been loving one sec and have saved myself a lot of time off of Instagram, but I’ve discovered a bug and have been abusing it for quite a while.If you slide down the control center in the app switcher, close it, open Instagram quickly, then quickly open the control center again, you completely bypass the interruption from one sec closing the control center; you are free to scroll without interruption or anything. I was hoping there’d be a fix, but if not, I would love recommendations to fix the settings in a way to avoid this habit I’ve developed abusing this.**A video recreating the bug is below**

Although the settings description of ‘Customization Lock’ within ‘Cheat Lock’ claims to put us “through and extra-long breathing exercise to unlock one sec’s settings,” I find that the duration is fixed and very short. Right now, it is too easy to change or even disable interventions on a per-app basis from the “Overview” page. It would be nice if we were able to change the duration of the ‘Customization Lock’ or adjust other options of that intervention. To clarify: I am not talking about how to change any specific app intervention from the overview page, nor am I asking how to enable the Cheat Lock. I am asking for the option to adjust the Cheat Lock qualities, such as the duration, exercise type, etc.

It would be great to have the first intervention for an app be a 3 second delay, and then for every pick up on that app after have the delay increase by X seconds (e.g. 1). It would be a great way to drive home the number of pickup attempts, and have the cost increase rather than become more mindless.

One of the most important features is the ability to block all websites and then create exceptions so that only a few websites are whitelisted. copy/add the options LeechBlock offers to specify which sites should be blocked or delayed. I’d like to offer some feedback regarding the “Remove In-App Distractions” feature, particularly the blocking of scrollable video content (like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, etc.). While this function is powerful and highly useful, I believe its current implementation is too restrictive in some cases.There are times when I need to watch a specific short video on YouTube for a legitimate reason, but when the “scrollable videos” setting is enabled, it blocks access entirely. As a result, I find myself toggling this setting off and on — which eventually led me to stop using it altogether.Instead of a complete block, I would like to suggest a more flexible approach: Why not trigger an intervention specifically when the user enters the Shorts section, similar to how other app interventions work? For example, when I tap on YouTube Shorts, One Sec could show an intervention screen just for that section. This would prevent mindless scrolling, while still allowing access to one or two short videos if needed.You could also implement additional limits, such as:<ul><li>A time-based limit (e.g. 2 minutes of Shorts viewing),</li><li>Or a per-session cap on how many Shorts can be watched (e.g. 3 videos before blocking further scrolling).</li></ul>I truly believe this would be a meaningful improvement, especially given how addictive short-form video content can be. With a more controlled and flexible system, users could engage with this content mindfully — rather than having to choose between full access or none at all.

I think it would be great that if I enter an app too often in a short period of time, that I get completely locked out for a moment. So for example if I check instagram 5 times in 5 minutes, I’d get strictly locked out for 30 minutes. Maybe the suggestion “Daily App Budget / Daily Limit for App Opens” would achieve a similar effect in an easier to understand fashion. But wanted to post the idea anyway.

This means that bookmarks, reading lists, pinned tabs etc… become hard to browse. I see no reason why the browser extension should mess with the page title.

Unfortunately I found an easy way to disable the Screen Time Settings, even if you block the shortcut app and go into a strict block. You can just swipe down in the menu, press WLAN settings and open the settings this way. I have been using the one sec safari extension and it has been great. However, I think it would be more useful if there is an app similar to how it is on the iPhone that can manage more details. So that there can be strict blocks, app and website time limits and blocks. So that basically all the features on the iPhone app are available on a MacOS app that.

A certain time (customisable) after sharing your intent and entering the app, you get a reminder of your intent. E.g. “Your initial intent was to post something, is this still true?” Could be accompanied with a breathing moment as a pause.

I tried the Browser Extension for 2 weeks now. At first it worked everything fine. Now the App doesn’t block the URL anymore (its a slack.com/client url which does not change) and if its blocked, it disables kind of all Slack Shortcuts. Not working anymore:<ul><li>Enter doesn’t send a message anymore (it’s making a linebreak)</li><li>CMD+K etc. is not working </li><li>Keyboard Selection is not working anymore</li></ul>What i tried:<ul><li>Clear Application Storage of the page (cache, cookies, sessions) → not fixing</li><li>Disable the Extension → works</li></ul>Thats why i think it’s the Browser Extension which causes the error. I’m on the latest Arc/Chrome Build. There are no console errors visible.

I find it very frustrating to set a time in the re-intervention UI, because i have to perfectly slide my finger on the circle given. If i slightly miss it, the selection cancels. Im on android btw so idk if thats the same problem with IOS. Maybe invent a tap mode so you can tap on the circle where the selection should be in the end. I like the browser extension, but it only solves part of the problem. On my windows computer I get distracted by opening steam to play games and stuff, so I would like something that could block/intervene on apps outside of my browser.

If i have an active task on Structured, one sec should be able to block all apps, not only the ones I have a Shortcuts automation for, like it is working right now. This could maybe be done by <ul><li>integrating the Block Sessions feature </li><li> or starting a Focus mode for a “softer blocking”-approach: Structured activates a focus in which the apps are already selected to be blocked. We could use the Structured Color-Coding for different Focuses.</li></ul>The idea is to make the process less complicated to and work intensive to set up.

I am reporting a bug for the block feature of one sec. I have X registered for a recurring block. Under Blocked apps, I see Twitter / X and I have the X app connected via the Screen Time API. The X app is blocked as expected. The app is shown in grey on the home screen, and the app shows ‘blocked by schedule’ when opened. It’s the website version of X that is not properly blocked. The expected behavior in any web browser, including Safari is showing Limited with a 모래시계 with only the OK button which closes the browser. However, in Safari, I am seeing the one sec UI which has the button to take me to the one sec app. Here, the app does work to block usage. In browser other than Safari, such as chrome I am not even seeing the one sec UI and instead can access the website. I think this may have something to do with the blacklist URL being confined to only <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://twitter.com">twitter.com</a> and not <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://x.com">x.com</a>.
